                        Frequently Asked Questions

                        ACCESSIBILITY

Can people in wheelchairs use the ropeway?

The floor of the cabins are level with the ground, so that persons in wheelchairs can get in and out without a problem. Ropeway personnel are always ready to help.

How does the ropeway achieve a passenger transport capacity of 3,000 persons per hour during peak hours?

Based on many years of experience, it takes a passenger about two seconds to get in or out. During this process, the ropeway speeds can be individually controlled at the stations. When a person in a wheelchair or a family with a stroller get in, the speed for getting in and out can be slowed down or the gondola can even be stopped.

                        OPERATION OF THE ROPEWAY

                        Can animals be taken along?

Animals can be transported if it can be reasonably expected that they won’t hinder safe operation of the ropeway, if the owner keeps the animal under control during the ride, and if the other guests on the gondola don’t object. Dogs will only be transported if they wear a muzzle.

Can bicycles be transported on the ropeway?

Bicycles can be taken along if they are clean. Due to the amount of space they take up, bicycles are considered bulky luggage. Transporting bulky luggage costs €1.50.

Does the ropeway have enough capacity to accommodate, for example, an entire subway train full of people?

The transport capacity of the ropeway has been sufficiently measured. During peak hours, up to 3,000 people can be transported per hour per direction. Since the up to 64 gondolas are constantly circulating, there may be long waiting times.

Is the same amount of cabins always in operation or can the ropeway react to fluctuating visitor numbers?

The transport capacity can be regulated and adapted to meet demand as necessary. This way the driving speed as well as the number of cabins can be reduced.

Has the topic of safety been given thorough consideration? Is there an emergency plan in case the drive motor fails?

Compared to other means of transportation, the ropeway is the safest means of transportation beside the airplane. There are extensive emergency plans for the unlikely case of a disruption. If the motor fails, there is a backup drive available to bring the cabins back to the station.

Is it necessary for children to be accompanied by an adult while traveling on the ropeway?

Children up to 11 years of age generally must be accompanied by an adult in the ropeway cabin.

How old do children have to be to use the nature bobsleigh run?

Children four years of age or older can use the nature bobsleigh run if they are accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 16 years old. Starting at 11 years of age, school children can use the nature bobsleigh run on their own without supervision, as long as no other limitations are specified in the conditions of transport.

How often can I use the ropeway with my annual season ticket from Grün Berlin GmbH?

The annual season ticket for 2018 including the ropeway entitles you to travel to and from the parkway, similarly to the Gardens of the World and ropeway combo ticket. This means you can ride the ropeway to and from the park once per day and get off/on at Kienberg.

                        LINE ROUTE

Why wasn’t the ropeway connected to the “Wuhletal” station?

The length of the route and the path through the Wuhle Valley were a disadvantage. The number of supports necessary for this would have been much more expensive than originally envisioned and also would have had a high impact on the Wuhle Valley.

Is it possible for crowds to form at the Kienberg station that might cause problems getting in and out?

The total of 64 cabins run in a continuous loop, so that passengers can get in and out at the “Wolkenhain” station without a problem. Furthermore, it isn’t absolutely necessary to get out at the “Woklenhain” station. Passengers can also stay on and travel to the station at the Gardens of the World or the “Kienbergpark” Station on Hellersdorfer Street.

“In just 186 days, the ropeway recorded over three million rides, making it the greatest attraction of the International Garden Exhibition (IGA) Berlin 2017”.
